Every year, Muslims around the globe await the ninth month of the Islamic calendar with excitement and special plans to make the best use of this holy month, the month of Ramadan.
As a Muslim, one of the best activities that you could undertake besides prayers (Salat) in Ramadhan is learning Quran. After all, it’s not called “The Month of Quran” for nothing.
The Relationship Between Ramadan & Quran
There is a solid relationship between Ramadan and Quran since the beginning of Islam; Ramadan is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the archangel Gabriel (PBUH). In this regards, Allah (SWT) states:
The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

The Quran was specifically revealed at the night of decree (the night of power or Laylat al-Qadr) of Ramadan. It’s the best night of the year and worshipping Allah (SWT) on this night is better than worshiping for a thousand months. Allah Almighty has revealed a complete Surah in the Quran stressing the importance of the night of decree:
Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory. And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is? The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months. That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit1 descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every ˹decreed˺ matter. It is all peace until the break of dawn.

Allah Almighty has distinguished the month of Ramadan apart from all other months by selecting it to be the month of Quran revelation. The Quran represents the core of Islam and the foundation of Muslims’ creed. Allah (SWT) sent it down as mercy and guidance to the whole world.

Virtues of Learning Quran in Ramadan
“Ramadan”, “Ramazan”, “Ramzan”, “Ramadhan” or “Ramathan” (in Arabic: رَمَضَان) has all the right to be called “The Month of Quran” because virtues & benefits of learning Quran in this particular month are UNMATCHED, such as:
1. Get a Unique Opportunity for Forgiveness
Muslims who fast Ramadan with complete sincerity and obey are promised to get all their past sins forgiven by Allah (SWT). In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping for reward, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayer on Laylat al-Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for reward, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.

So when Muslims learn Quran in Ramadan, they have the privilege of winning this prize; The closer you are to the Quran, The closer you are to Allah (SWT).
2. Good Deeds Are Much Multiplied
During the month of Ramadan, Allah (SWT) multiplies our good deeds more than any other month.
Normally, a Muslim gets 10 good deeds on reading each letter from the Holy Quran. This number is multiplied during the sacred month. So, imagine reading a complete Ayah, Surah, or reading the whole Quran in Ramadhan! In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.
Hadith [Book 45, Hadith 3158]
One of the famous Muslims who was keen on winning this opportunity is Imam al-Shafi’i. He used to complete reading the whole Quran 60 times during the holy month of Ramadan.

Although the devils are chained up during the holy month as we mentioned above, we still may tend to commit sins. In this regard, a well-known historian in Islam said:
If you do not occupy yourself with obedience, you are busy with sin
Ibn al-Jawzi
So if you are not practicing some activity that gets you closer to Allah (SWT) and puts you on the righteous path, you are always exposed to fall into sin. Learning Quran can protect you from committing sins by occupying yourself with an act that pleases Allah (SWT) and enhances goodness in your heart.
5. Intercession for Muslims on The Day of Judgement
Fasting During Ramadan and Learning Quran will intercede for Muslims on The Day of Judgement. In this regard, the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
Fasting and the Qur’an intercede for a man. Fasting says, ‘O my Lord, I have kept him away from his food and his passions by day, so accept my intercession for him.’ The Qur’an says, ‘I have kept him away from sleep by night, so accept my intercession for him.’ Then their intercession is accepted.”
