Inside Our Quran Ijazah Course Curriculum

The curriculum below is the standard progression path, structured level by level, from foundational to certification-ready. Every student’s actual pace and specific focus areas are personalized based on their initial assessment.

Tilawah Track Level 1: Foundational

This level is the entry point for any student whose recitation contains foundational errors. Your tutor begins by mapping every mispronunciation and letter confusion with care and without judgment.

The entire focus of Level 1 is the Makharij; the precise places of articulation for each of the Arabic alphabet’s 28 letters, from the deepest throat sounds to the tip of the tongue and the lips.

Students practice short Surahs repeatedly in live sessions, receiving real-time correction until each letter lands precisely in its correct place.

By the end of this level, your recitation will be free of major errors and your foundation will be solid enough to build every subsequent Tajweed rule upon.

Topics covered:

  • Correct pronunciation of all Arabic letters (Makharij al-Huruf)
  • Introduction to the five articulation regions: throat, tongue, lips, nasal passage, and mouth
  • Identification and correction of common recitation mistakes (lahn jali)
  • Recitation practice with Surahs from Juz Amma
  • Building a consistent recitation routine between sessions

With the letters firmly in place, Level 2 moves into the full application of Tajweed. Your tutor introduces each rule systematically, ensuring genuine understanding before moving on.

Your tutor assesses your progress in real time, ensuring no rule is left unmastered before moving forward.

Topics covered:

  • Rules of Noon Sakinah and Tanween: Idgham, Iqlab, Ikhfa, and Izhar
  • Madd (elongation) rules: Madd Asli, Madd Far’i, and all sub-categories
  • Qalqalah: the echo-vibration rule and its five letters
  • Tafkhim (heavy pronunciation) and Tarqiq (light pronunciation) of the letter Ra
  • Waqf and Ibtida: the rules of stopping and starting during recitation

Level 3 is the stage of refinement. The student now recites longer passages of the Quran with sustained accuracy, and the tutor’s role shifts toward eliminating the subtle, hidden errors (lahn khafi) that remain after the major rules have been mastered.

Sessions involve extended recitation of multiple pages with the tutor listening closely, pausing only when a finer point needs correction. Students also begin to develop their own sense of Tarteel; the unhurried, melodic pace that marks a reciter who has truly internalized the text.

Topics covered:

  • Extended recitation practice across multiple Juz
  • Correction of lahn khafi: subtle, hidden recitation errors
  • Rhythm, pacing, and development of a natural Tarteel
  • Practical application of all learned Tajweed rules simultaneously
  • Preparation for the final Ijazah assessment format

Level 4 is the culmination of the Tilawah track. The student recites the complete Quran before their Al-Azhar certified tutor in a series of formal oral examination sessions.

The standard required is Itqan: complete mastery, with no uncorrected errors, accurate application of all Tajweed rules, and consistent Tarteel throughout.

Upon satisfying this standard, the tutor confers the Ijazah formally authorizing the student to recite and teach.

Topics covered:

  • Full Quran recitation from Mushaf under supervised examination conditions
  • Real-time error review and final correction sessions
  • Verification of Sanad chain documentation
  • Formal conferral of the Ijazah certificate
  • Guidance on what it means to carry and honor your Sanad going forward

Benefits of Our Online Ijazah Course

“Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to remember. So is there anyone who will be mindful?” — Surah Al-Qamar (54:17)

It Connects You to a 1,400-Year Chain of Scholarship

Your tutor at Almuhammadi Academy holds an authentic Ijazah from their own teacher, who received it from theirs, and so on; an unbroken line of oral transmission that no digital tool or institutional certificate can replicate. When you complete this course, you do not just gain a qualification; you become part of the living history of Quranic preservation.

The Ijazah can only be conferred when a student achieves Itqan, complete mastery, free from uncorrected errors, with all Tajweed rules applied consistently. Our Al-Azhar certified tutors have themselves passed this standard and know precisely what it requires. By the time you sit your final assessment, you will not be performing for a certificate; you will be demonstrating a genuine skill you carry for life.

Once you hold an Ijazah, you are formally authorized to teach; whether that means tutoring your own children at home, leading a Quran group at your masjid, or formally taking on students of your own one day.

One of the most underrated benefits of the Ijazah program is structural: the regular, scheduled, one-to-one sessions with an Al-Azhar scholar create a form of spiritual accountability that is almost impossible to replicate through self-study or group classes.

Why Pursue an Ijazah? The Deeper Purpose Behind the Certification

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, 5027). An Ijazah is not merely a certificate; it is the formal recognition that you have fulfilled the first part of this hadith, and the explicit authorization to fulfill the second.
