All Muslims are required to abide by the Prophet Muhammad’s instructions, and one of the most significant ones is found in the hadith:
“Read the Qur’an regularly. By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, it escapes from memory faster than a camel does from its tying ropes.”
To avoid such a terrible consequence of having one’s efforts of Quran memorization go in vain, one has to follow effective strategies for revising the Quran and have a consistent Quran Hifz revision schedule.
5 Different Quran Hifz Revision Schedules
Having a consistent juz’ rotation plan is essential for a successful Quran hifz revision schedule. This schedule needs to be properly structured and tailored to your ability and timetable.

1. Revision Schedule for 5 Days
While it might sound more demanding than the previous schedules but it doesn’t have to be five days back-to-back. You can divide it as follows:
| Days | Number of Juz’ Revised |
| Sunday | Juz’ 1-6 |
| Tuesday | Juz’ 6-12 |
| Thursday | Juz’ 12-18 |
| Sunday | Juz’ 18-24 |
| Tuesday | Juz’ 24-30 |
2. Revision Schedule for 7 Days
A more intense Quran hifz revision schedule would enable you to revise the whole Quran within a week
| Days | Number of Juz’ Revised |
| Day 1 | Juz’ 1-4 |
| Day 2 | Juz’ 4-8 |
| Day 3 | Juz’ 8-13 |
| Day 4 | Juz’ 13-17 |
| Day 5 | Juz’ 17-21 |
| Day 6 | Juz’ 21-25 |
| Day 7 | Juz’ 25-30 |
3. Revision Schedule for 15 days
If you are used to reciting larger amounts of Juz’s within a shorter time limit, you can follow the rotation plan that extends for 15 days only:
| Days | Number of Juz’ Revised |
| Days 1-5 | Juz’ 1-10 |
| Days 5-10 | Juz’ 10-20 |
| Days 10-15 | Juz’ 20-30 |
4. Revision Schedule for One Month
Making the period shorter would require more effort because revising the whole Quran within a month dictates that you revise one Juz’ per day for 30 days. It can be a bit challenging to commit to at first, but once you get the hang of things, it will be a regular habit.
5. Revision Schedule for Two Months
This schedule adopts the prophetic guidance that “the best of deeds is that which is done consistently, even if it is little,” because following this revision schedule means you revise half a Juz’ per day for 60 days, leading to the revision of the entire Quran within a month.
6 Essential Strategies for Quran Hifz Revision
1. Revise in Salah
One of the most effective strategies for both Quran memorization and revision is reciting in Salah. To make the best use of this strategy, establish a schedule where you specify a certain juz’ or Surah for each prayer. Divide the portion according to your ability, and it would be great if you could dedicate a section for Qiyaam prayer as well.
2. Establish a routine
It makes it easier to follow a Quran hifz revision schedule if you have a routine where you, for example, pray Fajr and then recite a part of your assigned juz’ afterwards. Following a similar pattern makes it easier for your brain to recognize it and stick to it.
3. Set up a Deadline
Whether it is to revise the entire Quran within a month or less, it is important to set up a deadline because it enables you to organize your effort and reach your milestone successfully.
4. Spaced Repetition
Avoid cramming all of your revision in one day. Instead, divide the required juz’/surah over an extended period of time. This is especially helpful if you are still memorizing the Quran, as it ensures that you learn the new portion while keeping track of the parts previously memorized.
5. Surah-Based Revision
Creating a more dynamic approach to Quran hifz revision is another helpful strategy. This includes categorizing the Surahs you have memorized into ones you fully master, ones that need a bit of revision, and ones you face a lot of difficulty with. Create your Quran hifz revision schedule by dedicating certain days for each category so that your retention is better, and also you avoid burnout from exerting too much effort with the last category.
6. Theme-Based Revision
A strategy worth mentioning is the theme-based revision, which indicates that you categorize Surahs based on their major themes. This not only leads to better retention but also to a better understanding of the teachings of the Quran and a better relationship with the Quran.
